(update) Didn't boot because of Safe boot option in Bios enabled and TPM security option. MSI laptop with HM370 chipset and mobile i7 9750.

Since this is also my Hackintosh PC running my DAW+waves plugins I can't test if Soundgrid can find the server. Linux boots, lots of messages and the server is running. In BIOS safe boot is off and on 'other OS' Fast boot is also turned 'off'. I put in the USB stick, F8 for boot sequence and selected the USB drive. Ok first tests: (UPDATE! the test is done with the v12.8 server version and all PC's have 16GB or 32GB) Doing this, is against the Waves TOS (terms of service) and not legal.

He looked at the code and confirmed that recompiling the code with the correct drivers can work.

* A good friend (coder and programmer) pointed out that if the driver is in the kernel, the program can use it and my logic was incorrect. I believed the problem seemed to be in the Waves Servercode and or lack of support/code.

UPDATE: I found generic Intel+1000series AND generic Realtek+r8169 series in the code. Some people on the forum allready found specific remarks about Intel LAN Chips in the Code. I thought this was the case, because several computers where detected (while running the server) by my Router, but not seen by Soundgrid Studio. I will report back what works and what does not work.Įxtra information about LANsupport: It seems that several LAN chips are reconized by linux (hardware), but the Waves server program can't utilize them. These 3 PC's have the above specs and I will test if the checklist works. If this is correct, it would mean I can boot the server up on at least 3 of my +6 PC's. Most modern PC's have this option in the BIOS. You need to turn 'off' safe boot (TMP security too) and turn it to 'other OS' and/or 'off' or disabled in the BIOS. UPDATE! The following is confirmed by my testing. Turn off all LAN options (including wifi) and only activate the LAN port you want to use. CPU and Ram have to be configured correctly. *BIOS Settings!!! your system will not boot if USB ports, boot sequence settings, etc are not correct. USB connection for the USB bootdrive (thumbstick) OR proper formatted drive.*

Realtek 8111x should work (Success with 8111H and 8111B and r8169) * LAN with Intel Chipsets like the 1000 series, I219V seem to work fine. Point of advice: If the mainboard supports Dual channel and it has 2x8GB don't pull one out. Higher does not show a performance boost. Most users did not seem to see an increase in performance after 8GB. Even older chipsets seem to work if the rest of the needed specs are present. Low end CPU like Celeron is not adviced for people who do big plugin sessions. i3/5/7/9 can work, Xeon and Celeron too) It looks like the Mid range to high range CPU's wil have simular performance. Intel CPU (not limited to a specific series. With all the info we have right now (24-01-2022 update), the best succes to get a server running on a PC system it has to have the following. I looked at all the comments and I guess people can use a little checklist with all the info combined

I looked at the list shamk posted ( ) Dived into the specs of the systems that are put in the list without chipsets etc. With all the info in the thread I did some crosschecking on the info we have now. I want to thank everbody for all the hard work they did allready.
#Waves soundgrid server diy upgrade
Does this upgrade make a difference compared to the extreme server? Does it provide more power? I am on the verge of deciding between 11th gen vs 9th gen i7. Which case did you pickup? Was it a 2U chassis like the one from iStarUSA? Kind RegardsCongratulations on your build. Thank you all for sharing your knowledge. I've used superrack to test how many H-Reverbs(stereo) I can run at the same time, I ended up with 20 H-Reverbs before getting clicks. Mem: 32GB DDR4 (I was not sure this would work and was going to rebuild it as my main desktop if this failed, I know it is excessive for this) Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 Black(Big ass cooler, but I don't hear it even if it's very quiet, CPU is running at 28☌ with 20 H-Reverbs) (I own an Impact server from Waves but this is not working for live sound) I just finished the first tests of a new waves server I've assembled.Įverything seems to be working, as this is my first attempt at this.
